DST: New Laser Welding System for Production
There are visible changes underway at DST – with the commissioning of a new WIKA laser welding system (model GHP 300), the company is strategically expanding its production equipment. This modern system offers numerous technical innovations and enhanced safety features.
“Our previous system has been in use since 2003 At the time, it was state of the art. Now, after more than 20 years and with ongoing advances in technology, it was time to invest in the next generation of welding systems,” explains Neel Sheth, Technical Director of Design at DST.
Greater precision and safety
The new laser welding system is already in operation and is now handling demanding welding tasks. Equipped with a 4-kW disc laser, the machine not only simplifies daily work for the team but also delivers increased efficiency, improved safety, and higher precision across the manufacturing process.
Maximum safety:
The machine is classified as Laser Safety Class I – the highest safety category for laser systems. This ensures optimal protection for our employees.
Dual welding stations:
Unlike the previous machine, which could process only one component at a time, the new system allows simultaneous work at two stations. This improves capacity and shortens lead times.
Pinpoint accuracy with crosshair camera:
To ensure consistently accurate welding results, an integrated camera enables precise positioning so that each component is welded exactly where it is needed. This improves the overall product quality.
More flexibility for larger components:
The system can process components weighing up to 100 kg and measuring Ø400 mm by 400 mm in height. This expanded capability opens up new possibilities in production.
Three shielding gases for optimum results:
By using argon, helium and nitrogen, the system can be flexibly adapted to different material requirements, ensuring ideal welding conditions for a wide variety of applications.
Significantly reduced set-up times:
Thanks to a modern clamping system and an updated manufacturing concept, the set-up time for complex components has been reduced from 30–40 minutes to just 2–3 minutes – saving valuable time.
Intuitive programming interface:
The user-friendly control system allows for quick and flexible adaptation to customer-specific components, increasing responsiveness, reducing processing times and streamlining production planning.
With this investment in advanced laser welding technology, DST is taking a clear step toward the future. “The new system offers key technical advancements that benefit our entire production line,” concludes Neel Sheth.
